Thank you, John, In hindsight, I should have engaged you in the conversation earlier just so you would be aware. However, it was our hope the bags would 'turn up' especially when it was learned that supervisors or management from Kudzu was to ride the routes investigating the many losses from here and elsewhere. Your interest and guidance is appreciated. I had no idea... Please note that our new contract with Lanter as a higher payout -- now $250 per bag. Please let me know the total of the claims -- if nothing else gets Lanter's attention, that surely will. --jeb John Burger, Executive Director Association of Southeastern Research Libraries ASERL c/o Georgia State University Library - Administration Suite LS7 100 Decatur Street SE Atlanta, GA 30303-3202 Telephone: 404-413-2896 Follow ASERL on Facebook: http://on.fb.me/Ziuz2a Find me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ASERLJEB -----Original Message----- From: Gail P Barton (gpbarton) [mailto:gpbarton [at] memphis.edu] Sent: Monday, December 07, 2015 10:26 AM To: John Burger Cc: kudzu-ops [at] aserl-lists.org; Paula Renea Phillips (pphillps); Regina M Cade (rcade) Subject: RE: Kudzu Losses & Invoices John, We have been in discussion with Kudzu for weeks with assurances that they, 'are looking for the missing bags.' We provided a spreadsheet of the ones that vanished August 27 and 28 just prior to the online system. There have been others dotted throughout and inquiries made on a regular basis. Both our Lending staff and I have called and received calls from Lanter Office staff. They have suggested we go ahead and make the claims but the $100 per bag will not cover the replacement costs. In speaking with others, I have heard similar things have happened elsewhere. Since it is time for invoices, I was curious if others were going to adhere to the ILL Code 4.8 about the Borrowing Library, even though assured the loss was Kudzu related during August and early fall term. Can you provide a number (even a rough estimate) of how many books have been lost? Others: Is this a problem for other libraries, too? We should be reporting any and all lost items ASAP to the courier when the loss occurs. This is the whole reason we launched the tracking system in September. --jeb John Burger, Executive Director Association of Southeastern Research Libraries ASERL c/o Georgia State University Library - Administration Suite LS7 100 Decatur Street SE Atlanta, GA 30303-3202 Telephone: 404-413-2896 Follow ASERL on Facebook: http://on.fb.me/Ziuz2a Find me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ASERLJEB -----Original Message----- From: Kudzu-Ops [mailto:kudzu-ops-bounces+jburger=aserl.org [at] aserl-lists.org] On Behalf Of Gail P Barton (gpbarton) Sent: Monday, December 07, 2015 10:08 AM To: John Burger Cc: kudzu-ops [at] aserl-lists.org Subject: [kudzu-ops] Kudzu Losses & Invoices Dear ASERL partners, using the Lanter Kudzu Courier, It is the time of year that books, never received, either going to or returning from the Lender or Borrower, are assessed and invoices prepared. We have a great number of books that simply vanished through the shared courier system and no doubt, many of you have as well. In light of this very concerning situation, I am interested in what other Kudzu Libraries plan to do as it relates to invoicing. Are we inclined to make the claim for the many books lost through Lanter/Kudzu and invoice the remaining amount to the Borrower? Or are any libraries inclined to 'forgive' the loss to the Borrowing library in this case? Thanks in advance for thoughts and feedback. You may contact me 'off list' or call to discuss this further.
