ASERL Colleagues:

Below is the latest update on the plan to merge the two existing shared print
confederations (Rosemont Shared Print Alliance and the Partnership for Shared
Book Collections) into a single organization. The date for the merger is
expected to be July 1, 2024. Full disclosure: I served on the Task Force that
developed the plan for the merger.

ASERL is hosting a community call next week (May 8 2024, starting at 2pm ET) to
review our shared print programming to date and get input from you-all about
your foreseeable needs and interests in this arena.

  * NOTE: The focus of the May 8 call will be on ASERL's print journal
retention / Scholars Trust programming -- not federal documents / CFDP. The
CFDP steering committee will seek input on that program separately.

Details of the 5/8/24 community call are below -- please join us as your
schedules and interests permit!

Subject: Update on merger between Partnership and Rosemont

Dear Colleagues,

I write with a joint update from Greg Eow and myself, in our roles as
respective chairs of the Partnership and Rosemont executive committees.

Since our last joint update in December, the Merger Implementation Task Force
(MITF), charged in August 2023, conducted its work with the assistance Sarah
Faye Cohen of thehttps://www.bigquestionscollab.com/. The Merger Implementation
Task Force (MITF) has now defined pathways to merge these organizations into a
single entity by July 1, 2024.

We share here, attached and
https://sharedprint.org/wp-content/uploads/Shared_Print_Merger_Plan.pdf, the
proposed action plan from the Merger Task Force (MITF). We welcome feedback on
this plan, which can be sent to us directly, in advance of the next joint
Executive Committee meeting of the Partnership and Rosemont on Thursday, May
9th. At the May 9th meeting, which we intend to be the final meeting of the
joint-executives in its current configuration, we will devise an action plan to
stand up the merged organization.

First, a word of gratitude. We thank members of the Merger Implementation Task
Force (MITF) for their work, which included representatives from both
organizations' Operations and Executive groups:

• Aaron Krebeck, Washington Research Library Consortium (Rosemont OC)

• Anna Striker, California Digital Library (Partnership OC)

• Gwen Bird, Simon Fraser University (Partnership EC)

• John Burger, Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (Rosemont OC)

• Peggy Seiden, Swarthmore College, retired (Partnership EC)

• Scott Warren, Syracuse University (Rosemont EC)

• Stephen Connaghan, The Catholic University of America (Rosemont EC)

• Tony Fonseca, Elms College (Partnership OC)

The Center for Research Libraries (CRL) has agreed to serve as the fiscal agent
for the new organization during its first year in order to allow for continuity
and stability through this transition.

  * Today will also be the last day for Partnership’s Program Manager Nika
Worth, who is moving her home and moving on to new professional adventures.
Best wishes to you from all of us, Nika, and thank you for your year + of
outstanding work for the Partnership!
  * We have engaged temporary administrative support from Minitex until the
newly appointed Executive Committee is ready to define and recruit for a new
staffer. I will share further details on this arrangement shortly.

We thank everyone for their contributions to this multi-year effort, and extend
gratitude to current officers and committee members for Rosemont and the
Partnership who have been serving in extended terms as we complete the merger.
We welcome feedback from the community in advance of the May 9th meeting of the
joint-executives, and look forward to the successful launch of the merged
organization in the next few months.

With best wishes,

Gwen Bird, chair, https://sharedprint.org/about/ec/

Greg Eow, chair, https://rosemontsharedprintalliance.org/committees
