Renewing our use terms for Scopus for 2024 was the first time I saw this language in the restrictions on use: use the Subscribed Products in combination with an artificial intelligence tool (including to train an algorithm, test, process, analyze generate output and/or develop any form of artificial intelligence tool); I assumed it was to stop competition with Scopus.AI and didn't think fast enough to try to change it. Our state-wide group has not yet seen the contract language for our journal agreement, but we are preparing to object/fight these restrictions in that negotiation. For those you who are currently negotiating any renewals with Elsevier, can you share any language they are attempting to include re: generative AI? If so, have you been able to push back with fair use language? I ask because I am wondering if they are trying to clamp down on any competition with Scopus.AI. We have a researcher who wants to extract a certain number of high-impact article abstracts to perform some LLM traning. Thanks for your consideration!
