FY – In case y’all had not seen via other channels.  Big news out of Chapel Hill yesterday.  They are going from 2000+ titles in the package to 395 titles licensed individually.  See https://library.unc.edu/2020/04/upcoming-elsevier-cancellations/ for the full announcement.

Subject: [aserl-deans] UNC Chapel Hill Elsevier Update

Dear ASERL Colleagues:

This morning, UNC-Chapel Hill Provost Bob Blouin and I announced to the University community that we will not be renewing our Elsevier big deal and will instead subscribe to a much more limited set of individual Elsevier titles. That message is below and is also posted on the University Library’s website (https://library.unc.edu/2020/04/upcoming-elsevier-cancellations/) and at https://sustainablescholarship.unc.edu. This decision follows more than a year of negotiations that failed to produce an affordable agreement that aligns with our values for licensing content. I would be glad to answer any questions about our decision or the process we used to reach it.

Sincerely,
Elaine
