ASERL Friends:

A reminder that next week will offer a new webinar, "Re-Thinking Offsite
Storage: New Economic Models + Low Oxygen for Better Preservation." Presented
by folks from Iron Mountain, this session will review how quality offsite
storage has become a necessity for many university libraries but options have
been limited due to high capital requirements and limited budgets. In late
2014, Iron Mountain’s new business group recognized this need and their
potential role as a service provider. They are working with the library
community to develop a scalable, pay-for-only-what-you-use service model.
Jeremy Suratt will talk about his research and the new technology his team has
developed, including an ASRS system that doubles the density of a traditional
Harvard Model facility and the addition of a low-oxygen system to improve the
preservation environment and reduce the risk of water damage. Iron Mountain is
seeking libraries willing to partner with the company to be leading-edge anchor
tenant(s) for this new model.
