Hello all,

I know the implications of the ADA Title II requirements on university libraries are on everyone’s minds right now. The Resource Sharing Interest Group suggested we consider establishing an expectation that ASERL libraries provide each other with Title II-compliant scans. We would like your input before we move forward. We are thinking of adding something similar to this sentence to our Resource Sharing protocols:

When scanning, the supplying library will provide accessible/OCR-readable PDFs that will be usable with text-to-speech software.”

Our questions for you:

  • Would supplying accessible PDFs generally be acceptable and feasible for your library?
  • Would this recommendation specifically be feasible and acceptable?
  • What other considerations might we need to contemplate? Are there concerns or additional recommendations to consider?
  • General reactions? Other thoughts?

Thanks for your wisdom and your assistance!

Best wishes,

Rebecca
