On Behalf Of Mckenzie, Katherine Hello! For William & Mary Libraries (Swem Library – VWM)… Beginning this Thursday, July 27, we will be using USPS Priority to send materials to Kudzu (and VIVA) libraries. We are considering USPS Ground Advantage for returns and other out of state destinations. Good luck everyone! On Behalf Of Interlibrary Loan Good afternoon all, For George Mason: We will be halting our UPS services as of COB tomorrow so are trying to get things out as much as possible in the short term to avoid the possibility of stranding them when/if the strike moves forward. Afterwards, we
will be sending items out via USPS First Class/Priority, USPS Library Rate, and Fed Ex to make sure that we are keeping up with requests and returns. I’d also like to say we are willing to beef up our scanning if need be to provide the fastest possible service. On Behalf Of Gee, William I have been looking into options, too. ERE will likely need to switch to USPS First Class. We have an institutional contract with UPS so FedEx seems not to be an option.
Our mail services office has said USPS Priority requires extra processing work and is expensive so they suggested USPS First Class instead. If UPS strikes, I cannot imagine it will last very long. Of course, I didn’t think the writers guild and actors would still be striking, either.

Kudzu-Ops Friends: Please see the query below from Nicholas at KLG regarding a temporary switch to snail-mail for Kudzu shipments while we wait-out the possible UPS strike. Is that an acceptable solution for the group, given the
extenuating circumstances? Please reply to all with your reactions / ideas. Thanks! Kind regards, --j.e.b. I’m planning to halt UPS shipments after Tuesday or Wednesday of next week unless the news indicates an agreement is likely. FedEx is a non-starter for our institution, can we send these snail mail until the strike is resolved if it happens?

Good Morning John, ALM will use USPS “Priority Mail” as an alternative to UPS if UPS goes on strike. The delivery time for priority mail will be quicker than library rate for USPS. We would be able to track items if necessary.
Please let me know if you need additional information. Best, Cornelia Cornelia Davis | Director

Good Afternoon John! I hope you are doing well! We are discussing alternative shipping options for ALM and will reply as soon as we have decided on some.

On Behalf Of John Burger Greetings, Kudzu-Ops Friends – There’s much speculation in the news about a possible nationwide strike by UPS drivers, potential as soon as August 1. For those of you who use UPS for your expedited deliveries (for Kudzu and/or other agreements),
do you have ideas on how to maintain service timelines during the strike (if it comes to pass)? Please share your thoughts. We can set up a quick huddle via Zoom if needed as well.
