ASERL Friends:

In case you had not seen, the first results from the IMLS-funded study of the viability of coronavirus on library materials has been posted.  The short version:

  • After one day the virus was undetectable on hardback (buckram cloth) covers, softback covers, and plastic DVD cases.
  • It took three days for the virus to become undetectable on the paper inside of a book and mylar book jackets.

See https://www.imls.gov/news/research-shows-virus-undetectable-five-highly-circulated-library-materials-after-three-days for the full announcement.

Project updates are posted at oc.lc/realm-project as they become available. Those interested can also sign up through the project website to receive timely email updates when new information is released.
