ASERL Friends: Some of you returned recently from ALA and inquired about Yewno, a new type of discovery tool developed by Stanford University and other partners. We are pleased to offer a webinar to demonstrate its uses and how Yewno can differ from the kinds of discovery layers many of us have implemented over the past few years. As they describe it, Yewno Education is a unique conceptual discovery environment based not on key words and phrases but on ideas contained in full text. Formally launched at ALA, Yewno is a "semantic-analysis engine" that uses a mix of computational semantics, graph theory, and machine learning to retrieve relevant documents without reliance on restrictive conventions imposed by external technology or data format requirements. The technology is currently in beta-testing and/or trials at eight institutions: Harvard, Stanford, MIT, the University of Michigan, University of California–Berkeley, Stonehill College, Oxford University, and the Bavarian State Library. See the recent article about Yewno in Scholarly kitchen: https://scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2016/07/13/have-you-looked-at-this-yewno/.
