Kudzu Friends: FYI – This morning we had an online demonstration from Lanter Delivery Systems to show us the functionality of the new barcode tracking system we will use for items that are shipped
using the courier service. The recording of the demo is available online at
https://vimeo.com/138099718. Thanks to everyone who participated in our session earlier today.
NEXT STEPS 1)
Lanter will distribute login information to each participating library by the end of this week. 2)
Lanter will deliver barcodes to be placed on site at each participating library (e.g., on a doorframe or someplace where delivery drivers can access it) by the end of
this week. 3)
U-Kentucky and Vanderbilt agreed to serve as pilot sites to test the workings of the system. The test will take place Tues-Fri of next week (Sept 8 – 11). 4)
Assuming the pilot goes smoothly, the other 13 sites are expected to begin using the barcode tracking system on Monday, Sept 14. 5)
The printers and labels needed for this system will be express-delivered to Kentucky and Vanderbilt in time for the pilot to start on Tuesday – they should arrive tomorrow
or Friday at UK and Vandy. Printers and labels will be shipped to the other 13 sites via standard FedEx/UPS rate – those should arrive by the middle of next week. 6)
Lanter’s IT staff will make themselves available to walk our libraries through the steps of operating the new system for the first few weeks of operation. We also have
a support contract for the new printers in case there are any problems with the equipment we are sending. 7)
We have ordered new, reusable padded waterproof tote bags that we will test to see if they reduce damage to materials during shipping. The new bags should arrive in
the next few weeks. 8)
We also have a donation of extra-large Ziploc bags that we will distribute to Kudzu libraries for use with the existing courier bags to help prevent water damage to
materials. I’m very pleased to see this new system come on line, after much time and effort by our libraries and Lanter staff. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to our progress so
far, and will work together to implement the new processes and equipment in the weeks ahead. Please let me know any questions.
