Subject: Proposed Changes -- Kudzu Policy & Procedures

Dear Kudzu-Library Deans:

The “Kudzu” ILL Program was launched nearly 15 years ago, operating under a set of guidelines and policies that has facilitated enhanced resource sharing among 20+ ASERL libraries and serving countless numbers of their patrons.  Over the past few months, a small group of Kudzu librarians has reviewed the Policies and Procedures document that governs the program.  This is the first review of the guidelines since the program was launched in Fall 2000, so it was certainly ready for a holistic review.

The proposed revisions are attached here for your review and consideration.  Overall, the changes are relatively minor – updates to technologies used, and some wording changes to reflect increased usage of electronic materials.

** The one notable change = If approved, Kudzu libraries would be able to charge each other processing fees when an item is lost or damaged.  These fees had been prohibited previously; this change reflects change in practice in several Kudzu libraries. (Please be assured the program remains free of regular ILL transaction fees – the proposed processing fees are optional, and only when an item is lost or damaged.)

We seek your review / comment / approval of the proposed changes.  PLEASE  REPLY  BY  March 31, 2015 with any questions, comments, or objections.  If none, we shall assume you agree to these proposed changes and the revised policies will go into effect later this Spring.

Thanks very kindly for your feedback on this matter.
