Kudzu-Lanter Friends: You may recall a small Task Force* has been working on documenting the steps for shipping items via Lanter courier. We'd like your review of the attached draft. We uncovered some variances in practices among Task Force members, so we expect the larger group will also find they do some things a bit differently than what is described here. Ultimately our goal is to establish consensus on these practices to ensure our libraries are providing optimal service to each other, and giving Lanter what they need to be an effective vendor. NOTE: You'll see we are discussing a possible change in practice for filing claims for items that are lost/damaged - see the box near the end of the document. Please let us know your comments/questions on this section in particular. ALSO: We had our first conference call with Lanter last week and discussed these issues, ongoing service problems, and the future of the service. We are scheduled to talk again during the week of June 16. They have indicated they are implementing point-to-point scanning for their shipments, which would greatly aid in tracking packages, especially those that go astray. I'll keep you posted on news as we receive it. NEXT STEPS: We are due for a Kudzu conference call where we can discuss this as a group -- stay tuned for a Doodle poll to get that conf call scheduled. * Our thanks to the Documentation Task Force: Amber Cook (USC), Andrew Huff (Louisville), Cornelia Davis/Gaby Marcks (Alabama), Judy Greenwood (ole Miss), Tracy Luna (Tennessee). Please let me know any questions.
