Hello Fellow Kudzu-ers

I just got off the phone with my FedEx acct rep.  A new guy just assigned to us and he asked me if I had had any problems with shipping FedEx.  I only have 1 re-occurring problem and if I have it, I wonder how many other libraries have it, especially since some of the Kudzu lib’s ship via FedEx.

There are some libraries/addresses that FedEx as assigned as RESIDENTIAL.  For this, they can charge an extra $2.30 per delivery.  Not so much, but if you have a shipment to that particular address every day, then it adds up.

You can, of course, unclick RESIDENTIAL, when you are filling out the online form.  Yeah, we do that MOST of the time, but sometimes it does get missed. And, of course, you can call FedEx and request that the charge be taken off when you get your bill, that works out nicely if you are the person who gets the bill, but if you aren’t, then it probably doesn’t happen.  Also, if you aren’t the person who gets the bill, then it might not get caught at all and you are paying it.

I’ve called FedEx and asked them WHY? This happens and the person handling my call was trying to be nice, but said that perhaps it really was a residence and I just didn’t realize it.  Yeah, VRC Cabel Library is a residence-go figure.  And yes, VRC is one of the addresses it does this to. A couple more (non Kudzu) are VA@ and PAU.

I have deleted the address from our address book and re-entered all the information and made sure that Residential was not clicked, but the next day, there it was back again.

SO….I’m wondering if other Kudzu libraries are seeing this and if we all complained at the same time that perhaps FedEx might look into it and fix it.  Just something to think about.
