Hello, Government Documents colleagues, I just wanted to pass along this offer from Backstage. On our last CFDP Oversight Committee call, we talked briefly about the consequences of Marcive’s closure and the GPO’s decisions on the Cataloging Record Distribution Service. Shortly
afterward we received word that Backstage has a significant promotional discount that might help libraries with
continuing authority control processing. Based on conversations with the Oversight Committee, I asked about batch uploading, and was assured that was possible with a gov docs caveat: Yes, records are regularly batch-loaded for authority control work after we get through the initial onboarding.
Here is a link to a page we developed on our website to talk through how our services work - ultimately, they are very
similar to MARCIVE's although the names and terms are different. They are very responsive and happy to answer any of your questions. If you’d like more information, please contact Alexandra Parran at

Hello John and Elaina! With the closing of MARCIVE on 12/31/24, we have been speaking with more libraries about the importance of continuing authority control processing. Backstage offers this
service and more. Due to the timing of this event and the budget challenges that it presents, we are offering an initial onboarding process (or "Basefile Processing") at a substantial discount for those libraries that can sign with us by the end of the year.
As a note, because the promotional pricing we are offering is on average a 70% - 80% discount, our usual 8% discount with ASERL wouldn't apply. Ongoing authority control, such as with our notification services, does not fall within our regular network agreement. However, we hope the promotional
discount to start with a new provider could be great news for libraries looking for alternative data solutions. Would you be willing to share this information with your libraries with these points in mind? I'm happy to put together an email that provides details about the promotional
discount, who to contact, and includes a link to a resource page we've developed to help answer some questions. I will also be discussing the deadline with our product expert to make certain the end-of-year timeline is static - there is a chance we may be
able to extend it. Let us know if there are other ways Backstage could be of assistance. Best, Alex Alexandra Parran
