Good morning,

I am emailing this morning to share information of interest to the Collaborative Federal Depository Program (CFDP).  The CFDP Oversight Committee has received notification of Georgia Tech’s intent to discontinue their participation in the CFDP as a Center of Excellence (COE), effective August 2024.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Patricia Kenly, and our colleagues at Georgia Tech for their support and efforts on behalf of the CFDP over the years, and their continued efforts as they finalize outstanding activities for their COE collections.

Georgia Tech has served as a COE for the following agencies since 2011:

Of these collections, only one - National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) - has a second COE at the University of Central Florida.  Additionally, there are two libraries with Preservation Steward agreements with GPO:  the University of Alabama Huntsville for segments of the NASA collection, and McNeese State University for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  The CFDP Oversight Committee believes that these libraries’ commitment to GPO to preserve a historical collection of government publications for these agencies mirrors the commitment made by COEs who agree to identify and to fill gaps in their COE collections too ensure they are as-comprehensive-as-possible.  To support their Preservation Steward collection activities, the Oversight Committee has offered COE user rights in the ASERL Documents Disposition Database, allowing access to offers that are in scope of their Preservation Steward commitment beginning on day 11 of the 45-day disposition cycle.  The library is not asked to sign an MOU to become a COE, and as such, is not designated as a COE unless they choose to do so.  The University of Alabama Huntsville has accepted the offer and has been updated to COE status in the database and McNeese State University is currently considering the offer.

If your library has a strong collection in any of the above SuDoc ranges, we ask you to please consider adopting a collection – or parts of a collection – as a Center of Excellence to ensure continued coverage of these important materials.  Information on becoming a COE can be found on the ASERL website, and please feel free to email me if you have any questions or if I can be of assistance.

Thank you in advance for your consideration,

Cheryle
