Good afternoon ASERL Friends. I am forwarding an email that John Burger distributed to the ASERL deans/directors regarding an additional request for comments on changes to Title 44.
Please let me know if you have any problems accessing the attached copy ? as John notes in the email below, the letter is also posted to the ASERL website at
http://www.aserl.org/programs/gov-doc/gpo-letters/. I look forward to seeing some of you next week in Arlington and hearing more on Title 44 during the Monday DLC sessions. Thanks! Cheryle Cheryle Cole-Bennett, Program Coordinator Association of Southeastern Research Libraries

On Behalf Of John Burger ASERL Friends: As you may know, ASERL was invited to participate in an informal conversation on October 4, 2017 with Congressional staff who are considering possible changes to Title 44, the federal law that
undergirds to FDLP. I was ASERL’s representative in that meeting. Much of our participation revolved around the comments we submitted to Joint Committee on Printing on August 30, which was developed by ASERL staff and reviewed/approved by our Collaborative
Federal Depository Program’s Steering Committee and the ASERL Board of Directors.
Following the Oct 4 meeting, ASERL was asked to provide additional, more-detailed comments to JCP, with a deadline of October 13 (today). This morning, ASERL submitted the attached letter.
We feel it offers a sufficient level of detail regarding various activities that we believe are important for GPO to undertake to improve public access to the FDLP corpus, without being too specific to become burdensome as technologies evolve and other changes
occur into the future. This letter was reviewed and unanimously approved by the ASERL Board of Directors. We hope it meets with your approval. It is available on our website (http://www.aserl.org/programs/gov-doc/gpo-letters/)
for public review. Please let me know any questions. With thanks for your support of our ongoing efforts. --jeb John Burger, Executive Director Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL) c/o Robert W. Woodruff Library 540 Asbury Circle, Suite 316 Atlanta, GA 30322 404-727-0137 |
