Good morning, In response to the recent call for
US Federal Government Documents Records by HathiTrust, a question was raised as to whether libraries have the appropriate rights to share these records. Might the SuDoc records vendor, Marcive, and OCLC have an objection to the sharing of records? John Burger responded that he believed the use of WorldCat data in this fashion falls within OCLC's "WorldCat Record Use" policy -- see
http://oclc.org/worldcat/community/record-use.en.html for details. Jeremy York (HathiTrust) has also affirmed he has been in contact with both OCLC and Marcive and has their approval to request
this data from libraries for this analysis. We hope you will proceed with sharing your data as described in the original message. HathiTrust asks for data to be submitted by January 31, 2014.
Further questions should be directed to
feedback [at] issues.hathitrust.org. Thanks! Cheryle CHERYLE COLE-BENNETT Program Coordinator Association of Southeastern Research Libraries Box 90182 226A Bostock Durham, NC 27708-0182 Telephone: 919-912-9486 Fax: 919-681-0805 |
