COLLEAGUES IN YOUR LIBRARY.>> ASERL Friends: You may have heard that I’ve been
conjuring the idea of creating an online guide to barbecue restaurants near
ASERL campuses for a few months now. I’ve talked it about with
several colleagues who all agree that it offers a great way to build
camaraderie within ASERL libraries and across volunteer teams that will develop
the guide. With this email, we’re officially kicking off the
project development cycle, with a call for volunteers: FOODIES * Need 2 – 3 volunteers from
ASERL libraries to draft the selection guidelines that will be used by ASERL
libraries to determine their selections. Strong written communications skills
are needed. TECHIES * Need 3 – 4 volunteers to
work with our ITDIIG co-chairs to develop the web page for this project (including
standard interface and mobile/GPS-based interfaces). We hope to include
the Web 2.0 functions to allow users to post comments & pictures. GRAPHICS * Need 1 – 3 volunteers to
prepare graphics for use on the web interfaces. VOLUNTEER MANAGER * Need 1 or people to work with me
to be the project development chairperson (or co-chairs). It’s an
unpaid position, but you’ll get the inside scoop on a lot of good
barbecue across the Southeast – and that’s priceless! TIMELINE We are planning to have guidelines ready
for the local selection process no later than the April ASERL Directors’
Meeting – but preferably before then. I expect responses to start rolling
in over the summer. I’d like to have the initial website up and
running before school resumes for the Fall semester. If you’d like to volunteer for one
of the posts above, please respond via email to me. I’ll gather
names over the next few weeks and get the various processes started. Thanks! --jeb |
