ASERL Friends: As part of our efforts to foster deeper collaboration between our member libraries, ASERL is offering this webinar next week to share information about GSU's tools and programming for Information Literacy instruction to remote students. The current registration list is posted at the end of this message, FYI. (Heads up: Another session on a similar topic, from UAB, is planned for later in August -- more info to come on that.) WEBINAR: "Reaching students beyond the classroom with an online information literacy course" DATE & TIME: Wednesday, Aug 5, 2020 at 2pm ET / 1pm Central Time REGISTER: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/5385211548547911951 DESCRIPTION Librarians at Georgia State University developed a modular information literacy instruction course for first-year students. By creating a series of readings, videos and quizzes in the Canvas learning management system, GSU instruction librarians now have a resource that can be used, in sections or as a whole, to provide basic library research concepts to any number of classes. The course generates digital badges for students to collect credentials demonstrating their mastery of fundamental IL concepts. Learn how the course was planned and created, and librarians’ future plans for development. PRESENTERS Karen Doster-Greenleaf is the Director of Research and Instructional Services at Kennesaw State University. She holds a master of science in library and information studies from Florida State University. Her current research interests focus on the impact of library services on undergraduate academic success and retention, and the use of performative-based assessment in library instruction. Leslie Madden is Team Leader for Arts and Humanities, Librarian for English, and Associate Professor at Georgia State University Library. She is the co-author of the ACRL books Now You’re a Manager: Quick and Practical Strategies for New Mid-Level Managers in Academic Libraries and The Desk and Beyond: Next Generation Reference Services. She has an M.A. in English literature from Virginia Commonwealth University, and an M.S.L.S. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Jason Puckett is Online Learning Librarian, Anthropology, and Associate Professor at Georgia State University Library.
