While I won’t be able to be on the call today, I thought I’d share our reciprocal reference policy at Hopkins, which honestly I’d never thought about in this way until now (probably because as far as I know it’s a one-way street). Basically, if anyone, either a community member or student or faculty of a local academic institution, comes into the library with a reference question during the hours that our Research Consultation Office is staffed, we will provide the same level of service, except for referral to a subject specialist. It’s the same if they call and ask to speak to a librarian during our regular hours.
I honestly don’t know what happens if a JHU faculty or student goes to one of the other academic institutions here, though I suspect that they’re given a similar level of service.
Access to our databases for non-JHU is limited to 6 terminals that don’t require a log-in and password.
If this does move forward, I would of course be happy to through our subject specialists into the mix for ASERL.
A quick reminder that we’ll gather for our first conference call this morning at 11am ET / 10am Central Time.
