From: John Burger (jburgeraserl.org)
Date: Fri, 8 Feb 2019 06:22:58 -0800 (PST)
ASERL Friends:

We have been approached by reps from Adam Matthew with a discount offer for
their “Research Source” product, with content relating to India/SE Asian
Studies. This offer is not available via other channels, so we wanted to gauge
member interest in pursuing this.

Please review the content list and pricing (attached) and let me know BY
FEBRUARY 22 if you might be interested in making a purchase via this offer.

Thanks much.

Subject: RE: Follow-up regarding Adam Matthew partnerships

Hi John,
Thank you for this email and for the update. I certainly understand what you
are saying. While I do see that on paper it doesn’t look like a tremendous
discount, the 5-15% off that we have proposed is in addition to pricing that is
already discounted by 85-90% off list price. This was the lowest price I could
get, as anything over 15% off would move us into territory of potential loss.
No other libraries in the country have an opportunity to buy at this price, so
this is an opportunity that would only be available to ASERL. I should also
mention that the volume of content available in these resources is
exceptionally high, so the price compared to volume and quality of information
is really a very good deal. I did not mention this in my previous email, but
there would also be no hosting fees. Many of the ASERL libraries hold the
microfilm for these collections, so the other benefit is that it would free up
that physical space and create a more accessible resource. I hope that, given
this additional explanation, the opportunity becomes more appealing. Having
said that, if it is still not of interest, I can look into other opportunities
that may be a better fit.

In this follow-up I also wanted to provide you with the list of ASERL customers
that hold Adam Matthew resources and have purchased in the last four years.
The list of titles owned by this group is wide ranging, but no one currently
owns the Research Source content, as this was only released just last year. The
customers are listed below, but please let me know if you have questions or
need more information.

On a final note, I did check with Dr. Ben Lacey, Director of our Outreach team,
and he is available the last week of March for a webinar if that is still of
interest. We can work with one of our existing library customers in ASERL to
present, as that sounded like it was the preferred option. Let me know if that
is still of interest.

Thank you for your review, John. I look forward to getting your feedback.

Alicia –

The initial feedback I am getting on this proposal is not positive – the group
feels the discounts are far too modest for us to invest our time and energy
into trying to corral support/participation among our member libraries. Are
you able to provide greater discounting?

Thanks.

Hi John,
Thanks for your email. I discussed this opportunity with my manager and we
both feel that based on the spend history for the ASERL members and potential
areas of further interest, the Research
Source<https://www.amdigital.co.uk/products/research-source> content is very
likely the best opportunity to start with and would have the broadest appeal.
In that light, I am currently working on putting together a list of spenders
for you, and I am looking at availability with our Outreach Team who would be
doing a webinar with an ASERL member on our Research Source content. I am
hoping to get back to you with the spend information and some dates of
availability for the webinar.

I also wanted to put together some pricing that would demonstrate the discounts
that we could offer on our Research
Source<https://www.amdigital.co.uk/products/research-source> content. What I
noted from our discussion at Charleston is that the licensing and payments
would not go through ASERL, is that correct? What I wanted to propose is a
volume discount. Pricing is attached and discounted ranges are listed below.

I will follow-up with you as soon as I have the spenders data and webinar date
availability together. Please take your time reviewing and let me know if you
have any questions.

Purchasing Discounts:
If a library purchases ANY Area Studies collection, they qualify as a
purchaser. Incentive based on total number of participating Libraries, NOT
number of collections.

     *   1-10 Libraries: 5%
     *   11-18 Libraries: 10%
     *   19+ Libraries: 15%

Kind Regards,
Alicia

Hi Alicia –

I’d be happy to offer a webinar on this. It would need to include at least one
ASERL librarian who licenses the product. It’s also helpful if we can share a
list of ASERL lribaries who have the products – a ‘bandwagon’ effect. Is that
do-able?

Subject: Follow-up regarding Adam Matthew partnerships

Hello John,
I hope that this email finds you well. It is hard to believe it has been a
couple of months since we last met in Charleston. I am working on 2019
planning and wanted to follow-up with you on possible opportunities where we
can work together this year. We work with quite a few libraries in the ASERL
network already, so I think there is potential for quite a lot of interest in
our resources. I spent some time thinking through possible areas where we
could work with ASERL to offer discounted pricing on collections, and there
were a couple of different opportunities that I wanted to propose. Overviews
of those ideas are below. Let me know your thoughts on these and if either
would be of interest.

The other thing that I wanted to suggest is that we would be very interested in
doing a webinar with your group if you feel that would be helpful. This can be
set up in a way that you feel is most beneficial. In the past, we have done
general overview of our resources, discussion on some of the advanced features,
or co-presentations with a customer, discussing successful partnerships that
demonstrate effective and/or innovative uses for primary sources in the
classroom. Would any of these be of interest to you?

Let me know some of your thoughts on these ideas. I am planning on being in
Georgia February 19-22, so if any of these topics are of interest I would be
happy to stop by and discuss this with you further.

Option 1 – Research Source Content. I have attached a general overview of our
research source content. Many of the ASERL members hold the microfilm copies
of this content, so this would be a valuable upgrade that provides enhanced
access to these valuable collections. Four new collections came out this that
are not on this list. We could potentially have a package price for the entire
Research Source Collection, or a flat discounted price for individual resources.

Option 2 – Larger Module Collections. Many of our large foundational research
collections will have their final modules published this year. This includes
Colonial America<https://www.amdigital.co.uk/primary-sources/colonial-america>,
East India
Company<https://www.amdigital.co.uk/primary-sources/east-india-company>, and
Socialism on
Film<https://www.amdigital.co.uk/primary-sources/socialism-on-film>. Some of
your libraries have already purchased these resources, but others have trialed
resources but not had funding at the time to move forward or were only able to
purchase portions of the collection. We could discuss special pricing on
purchasing some of these larger collections that offer a tremendous amount of
value and have multi-disciplinary application.

Have a wonderful 2019, John. I look forward to your feedback.

Kind Regards,
Alicia
