Subject: [Archivpres] Disaster Response Assistance

Hello everyone,

With news of Hurricane Florence making landfall on the east coast this week, we wanted to share some organizational resources that you can utilize in case your institution experiences damage and needs assistance.

  1. Free Preservation Assistance Helpline: We are available by phone 24/7 if you need advice on salvaging collections or need to be connected to additional resources. Program Leader and LYRASIS consultant, Annie Peterson, who runs our helpline, can be reached at 504-300-9478.  In the event that the line is busy, the National Heritage Responders also have a free 24/7 helpline and are available at 202-661-8068.

  1. Preservation and Disaster Response Resources: Documents that can be utilized in the event of a disaster such as checklists, salvage guidelines, and other operational documents are located at: https://www.lyrasis.org/services/Pages/Publications-and-Resources.aspx.  Contact information for other preservation organizations is at the bottom of the page.

  1. Consultant Assistance: We have a team of preservation consultants who can assist with your needs, including disaster planning, preparedness, and response.  More information regarding their services can be viewed at: https://www.lyrasis.org/services/Pages/Consulting.aspx.

Other resources:

  1. National Heritage Responders: Are a group volunteers located across the country who coordinate their efforts in the event of a disaster.  They can be contacted at 202-661-8068 for immediate assistance.
  2. Smithsonian Cultural Rescue Initiative, Hurricane Preparedness Tips For Cultural Institutions: A one-page document that provides tips for preparing and responding to hurricanes.

Please stay safe, and feel free to reach out to us if you need any assistance.
