At its recent meeting in Knoxville, the ASERL Board of Directors appointed the following persons to co-chairperson posts:
Scholarly Communications Interest Group: Ellen Catz Ramsey, Virgo Project Lead and Director of Scholarly Repository Services at University of Virginia, will serve as the co-chair of ASERL’s Scholarly Communications Interest Group for 2018-2020. Andy Wesolek, Director of Digital Scholarship & Scholarly Communications at Vanderbilt University), will be her co-chair through June 30, 2019. This group will survey its members to determine the types of school-comm activities underway at ASERL libraries, continue development of its popular blog series (www.aserl.org/blog), and plan for the 2019 Scholarly Communications Unconference (SCUNC.)
Special Collections Interest Group: Jessica Perkins Smith, University Archivist at Mississippi State University, will be the co-chair of ASERL’s Special Collections Interest Group, for the period July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2020. She will be joined by Suzan Alteri of the University of Florida Smathers Libraries, who is currently serving as ASERL’s Visiting Program Officer for Special Collections, through June 2019. Suzan and Jessica will analyze data collected during the VPO period, develop webinars focusing on the professional development needs of this community, and draft plans for a shared online exhibit to go live in 2019.
Collection Management Interest Group: The Board tasked ASERL staff to review and submit a new charge for this Interest Group, to focus more attention on collection assessment activities. Volunteers from ASERL libraries interested in working on this should contact John Burger ASAP. In the meantime, webinar development will continue in the Fall.
As always, our thanks to everyone who expressed interest in these posts. We look forward to working together into the future. Please let me know any questions.
