Another great example of OCLC acting more like a monetization machine than an
open and responsive contributor to the community. I much prefer the ASERL
approach of "for our members, but generally open to all".

All:

As some of you have learned, OCLC is restricting participation in this webinar
to Research Library Partnership (RLP, formerly RLG) member libraries only. I
was unaware of this restriction when I posted the original message yesterday;
my apologies for the confusion.

I have asked my counterparts at RLP to reconsider this decision. So far, they
are not budging.

I have asked them to re-reconsider, making clear my displeasure with this
policy. I am not optimistic they will change their minds, so we will work to
offer a similar session using our webinar system in the near future, which
would be open to all (as is our SOP). The OCLC webinar recording will
eventually be available via the public OCLC website as well.

Despite these frustrations, I was pleased to see the level of interest and
engagement on this topic among our membership. Definitely worth future
explorations! Please stay tuned on this developing issue, and let me know any
other questions.

Thank you.

ASERL Friends:

I've had conversations with some of you about the possibility of creating
guidelines to encourage the sharing of Special Collections materials via
standard resource sharing processes. You may know that the Big Ten Academic
Alliance (BTAA) recently published similar guidelines. (See
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.btaa.org_about_news-2Dand-2Dpublications_news_2018_04_19_big-2Dten-2Dlibraries-2Dcreate-2Dframework-2Dfor-2Dsharing-2Dspecial-2Dcollections&d=DwICAg&c=imBPVzF25OnBgGmVOlcsiEgHoG1i6YHLR0Sj_gZ4adc&r=NjAZOcjvY64hQgzJtQV1wws2q9x5Zl9x1kbUSuzNZfU&m=s9gd_fPuYgg6-ougqD8-k4dtVJXMVEG_kB3Eug9OP6c&s=hufIbCogFaKT8Frq_D6XojZ4io9YS0m1xQ-hb-pO-Sg&e=
 for information about BTAA's program.)

As a first step in exploring these options within ASERL, I encourage those of
you who are interested in attend a webinar hosted by OCLC Research which will
discuss BTAA's efforts as well as others. See
